I'M N O P (NO ORDINARY PROGRAMMER) OF WEIRD SCIENCE 2662, AND THIS IS THE FIRST DEMO I MAKE AS A MEMBER OF WEIRD SCIENCE 2662. IT'S CALLED "SOUND OF POWER", AND IT IS THE FIRST OF SEVERAL DEMOS WITH SAMPLED SOUND FROM AMIGA. I DON'T KNOW YET HOW MANY DEMOS THIS SERIES WILL INCLUDE, BUT AT THE MOMENT I HAVE A DOZEN C64-DISKS WITH UNUSED SOUNDS, AND MORE THAN A HUNDRED AMIGA-DISKS THAT I HAVEN'T TAKEN THE SOUNDS FROM YET. AND THIS NUMBER IS INCREASING ALL THE TIME, SO I SHOULD HAVE AN INFINITE SOURCE OF MATERIAL FOR THESE DEMOS. THIS DEMO CONTAINS SAMPLED SOUNDS FROM AMIGA, WHICH HAVE BEEN TRANSFERRED WITH AN RS232 INTERFACE, MADE BY 1809. QED DID THE BASIC AMIGABASIC PROGRAMMING, AND I SPED UP THE TRANSFERING A LITTLE. THE QUALITY OF THE SOUNDS HAS BEEN DIVIDED BY 16, SINCE THE AMIGA SOUND CHIP HAS 8 BITS, AND THE C64 SOUND CHIP HAS ONLY FOUR BITS THAT CAN BE USED FOR SAMPLING. BUT THE QUALITY IS ACTUALLY 16 TIMES BETTER THAN OF MANY OTHER SAMPLES, THAT USE ONLY ONE BIT. HERE'S SOME INFORMATION ABOUT THE SOUNDS IN THIS DEMO: "SOUNDPOWER" IS FROM THE GAME SUPER BUMPER. "U.S. CRITICAL" AND "U.S. BLOWING UP" ARE FROM LIBYANS IN SPACE. "SCREAM" IS FROM SPACE BALLER. "ANOTHER SCREAM" AND "YEAH!" ARE FROM OBERHEIM'S SYNTHETIC VOYAGE. "MEAN WORDS" IS FROM MISSION ELEVATOR. "MORE MEAN WORDS" IS ON THE SAME DISK AS INERTIA DRIVE (NOT PART OF THE GAME). "THANKS!" IS FROM SINBAD, AND IT ACTUALLY SOUNDS BETTER ON THE C64! THIS IS DUE TO THAT ESSENTIAL FREQUENCES OF THE SOUND VANISH IN THE LOW-PASS FILTER OF AMIGA. AS WELL AS PLAYING THE SOUNDS BACK FROM THE KEYBOARD, YOU CAN ALSO USE THE FIVE OCTAVE KEYBOARD THAT PLUGS INTO THE SOUND EXPANDER. EACH OCTAVE HAS THEN A DIFFERENT SAMPLE, AND YOU CAN HOLD DOWN THE KEY MOST TO THE RIGHT TO SHIFT TO A DIFFERENT SAMPLE. TO ENABLE THE KEYBOARD FOR USE, NONE OF THE KEYS MUST BE DEPRESSED WHEN YOU START UP THIS DEMO. THE F2 KEY IS FOR SWITCHING ON AND OFF SOUND AND COLOURS. THIS IS IF YOU FIND THE COLOURS DISTRACTING OR IF YOU WANT TO ENJOY THE VISUAL PART OF THE SAMPLES ONLY. THE COLOURS ARE ALWAYS BRIGHT AT A LOUD SOUND AND DARK AT A QUIET SOUND. THE SCREEN AND RASTER-INTERRUPT REDUCE THE SOUND-QUALITY, WHEN ON. TO HEAR A WEIRD EFFECT, HOLD DOWN F5 WHILE A SOUND IS PLAYING. I'M SORRY ABOUT THE SIMPLICITY OF THIS SCREEN, BUT I DIDN'T HAVE MUCH TIME, ROOM NOR FREE MEMORY TO MAKE THIS SCREEN ANY BETTER. I HAD TO OMIT THE INTRO I WAS GOING TO PUT ON THIS DEMO BECAUSE OF TOO LITTLE FREE MEMORY. BUT REMEMBER, I HAVE LOTS OF MORE SAMPLES WAITING TO BE USED IN A DEMO, SO LOOK OUT FOR THE FORTHCOMING PRODUCTIONS FROM N O P OF WEIRD SCIENCE 2662! THIS DEMO WAS RELEASED ON THE 24TH OF MAY '88. - IN A DEMO, SO LOOK OUT FOR THE FORTHCOMING PRODUCTIONS FROM N O P OF WEIRD SCIENCE 2662!
